BIODEGRADABLE POLYMER MATRICES OBTAINED BY IONIZING RADIATION FOR SKIN SCAFFOLDS

Progress on the optimization of biocompatible and biodegradable chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol (Chit/PVA) matrices prepared by gamma irradiation for tissue regeneration processes continued. It was found that the use of 2 freeze cycles followed by lyophilization and irradiation is more favorable to cellular growth on the matrices than the use of a freeze-dry cycle. Results also showed that the use of low molecular weight chitosan and the introduction of gelatin favor cellular growth leading to an improvement on cells’ morphology and cytoskeletal organization in comparison with previous results.
