RADIOMETALLATED ANTIBODY FRAGMENTS FOR CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM DRUG DESIGN
Under the scope of a large cooperation research project among different groups from the Instituto de Medicina Molecular, Faculdade de Medicina, and from the Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária, Universidade de Lisboa, we have been actively involved in the design and biological evaluation of novel low molecular weight proteins, namely antibody fragments (e.g. single domain antibodies - sdAbs), for treating central nervous system disorders (e.g. Alzheimer’s disease) that may contain specific engineered trans-blood brain barrier peptide vectors. This research work comprises an in vivo image-guided drug delivery approach, using selected sdAbs radiolabeled with the radiometals 99mTc and 67Ga, taking advantage of the expertise and facilities run by the radiopharmaceutical sciences group.
