C2TN researchers developed method to date historic wines

Researchers from C2TN, in collaboration with Instituto Superior de Agronomia and Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto, developed a pioneering method to prove the authenticity of Portuguese wines. Using 137Cs (caesium-137) dating via gamma spectrometry, this technique has proved extremely effective in differentiating wines produced before and after the uncontrolled nuclear tests of 1963, which significantly impacted 137Cs concentrations in the environment.

One of the great advantages of this method is its non-destructive nature, preserving the commercial and historical value of the wines.
