Joana Lage, PhD in Environmental Sciences, won a research contract in the 3rd edition of the Individual Scientific Employment Stimulus (CEEC) competition.
Joana Lage will develop new strategies to monitor air pollution by using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles with low-cost sensors. This work will focus on critical zones, such as rural, industrial, and urban areas. These areas were chosen due to the known impact into air quality, and due the fact that some areas are deprived of air pollution monitoring strategies. This research project is of utmost importance once it will achieve new knowledge in new technologies to monitor air quality, to improve air quality knowledge in concern areas, and to involve industry and local governments in air pollution mitigation strategies.
