Janice Lopes, a PhD student in Biotechnology and Biosciences at the C2TN – Centro de Ciências e Tecnologias Nucleares, took part in the PhD Open Days on 4th and 5th November with her poster ‘Grape Pomace: A Bioactivity Characterisation’.
This innovative project investigates the bioactive potential of grape pomace, a by-product of the wine industry with great potential for sustainable applications, demonstrating how the valorisation of agro-industrial waste can contribute not only to the advancement of science, but also to environmental preservation and innovation in the sector.
During the event, Janice Lopes had the opportunity to present her research to the República Portuguesa – XXII Governo, including the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, and other members of the Executive, such as the Minister of the Economy, Pedro Reis, the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Fernando Alexandre, the Secretary of State for the Economy, João Rui Ferreira, and the Secretary of State for Science, Ana Paiva. The presentation was also attended by leading academic figures, such as the President of the Instituto Superior Técnico, Rogério Colaço, and the Rector of the Universidade de Lisboa, Luís Ferreira, who emphasised their institutions’ commitment to promoting science and innovation.
