Evaluating Groundwater Resources and Groundwater-Surface-Water Interactions in the Context of Adapting to Climate Change – Algarve Basin Faro –Tavira Sector

Climate change has already begun and will continue to alter the water cycle, increasing risks of drought in Portugal. This situation, affects the availability and dependency on groundwater resources, source of 45–65% of the total fresh water demands in the country. Project develops the identification of salts origin in the coastal groundwater systems Faro – Tavira (seawater intrusion vs. evaporates dissolution vs. agriculture activities) and the identification of main nitrates source disolved in these water resources.
