HPLC/ICP-MS Laboratory

Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) is used in a wide range of research fields for multielemental analysis. Due to its low detection limits and ability to measure a large number of elements, ICP-MS is nowadays a reference technique for trace element and isotopic ratio determinations in many fields including earth, environmental, life, materials and nuclear sciences. ICP-MS is also an ideal elemental detection system for speciation analysis when hyphenated with a separation module such as HPLC.
Within the C2TN activities, a HPLC (Perkin Elmer Series 200) coupled with an ICPMS ELAN DRC-e with a collision/reaction cell, to reduce polyatomic interferences, have been set up. HPLC/ICP-MS Laboratory is composed by two clean rooms, one for the sample handling and preparation and the other for the instrumental analytical measurements.

This laboratory is being mainly used for trace elemental and isotopic analyses in different environmental, geological, archaeological and biological samples.
