CNB-EDT-TTF SALTS WITH CLO4; BILAYER POLYMORPHS AND DIFFERENT STOICHIOMETRIES
The electron donor CNB-EDT-TTF was recently found to give salts with small anions, characterised by a new type of bilayer structure of the donor molecules and with unique 2D metallic properties. A study on the preparation of salts with ClO4 anions under different electrocrystallisation conditions enabled to obtain besides salts with 4:1 donor:acceptor stoichiometry and bilayer donor structure, another salt with 1:1 stoichiometry dependent on the solvent and other experimental conditions. The salts β”-(CNB-EDT-TTF)4ClO4 were obtained in two polymorphs (monoclinic and triclinic), putting into evidence a new aspect of polymorphism in these bilayer metals, associated with the orientation of donor molecules in β”- type consecutive bilayers.
