The Center for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies (C2TN) is a research unit of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), which gathers, together with Technological Development Laboratories ( LDTs), the main human resources, skills and research infrastructure of the former Instituto Tecnológico e Nuclear (ITN).
The Research Center is a crosscutting structure with proven expertise in Nuclear Physics & Engineering, Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety, Radiopharmaceutical Sciences, d- and f- Element Chemistry & Radiochemistry, Materials Science, Nuclear and Related Techniques for characterization of Materials, Environment & Cultural Heritage.
C2TN researchers can access specialized equipment and infrastructures, some of them unique in Portugal. They use their expertise, the facilities and equipment available, to perform both fundamental and applied research, to provide advanced Education & Training and the provision of services not covered by Technological Development Laboratories.
The Center has scientific autonomy, and participates in the definition of the scientific and technologic policies of IST.

(formed by the President and two other members proposed by the President and ratified by the Scientific Council)
The research activity is developed along three Thematic Strands, and performed by five Research Groups in the framework of research Projects
The scientific management is made by a SCIENTIFIC BOARD
(Coordinating Commission of the Scientific Council).
It is composed by the three members of the Executive Commission of the Center, the Coordinators of the three Thematic Strands, and the coordinators of the six Research Groups.
The Scientific Board is advised by an external ADVISORY BOARD.
