Laboratory for Radiosynthesis
These laboratories, which are under negative pressure, are equipped with hot cells, glove boxes and fume hoods that allow for the safe handling of radioactive compounds based on various radionuclides (e.g. 99mTc, 111In, 67Ga, 64Cu, 177Lu and 161Tb).
The laboratories are also equipped with RP-HPLC systems coupled to UV-vis and Gamma Detectors, a Thin Layer Chromatography Scanner and an Electrophoresis Apparatus dedicated to the characterization and chemical identification of the radioactive compounds.
The infrastructure is also equipped with radiation monitors, dose calibrators and gamma counters for safety control and measurement of radioactivity. These laboratories include a dedicated room regularly used for training on radiochemistry synthesis (graduation and post-graduation students from IST and other national and international universities) and radiopharmacy (students from ESTeSL and resident physicians in Nuclear Medicine, among others).
Main “small” equipment:
- Analytical RP-HPLC coupled to UV-vis and Gamma detectors (3)
- Thin Layer Chromatography Scanner
- Dose calibrators
